Spiritual Program

Yesterday I was blessed to hear a panel on how AA members found the spirituality in the program and how it worked for them.

One went back to his roots, and got involved in the Native Culture and is sharing recovery around the US and Canada.

Another had been in and out for several years, and finally he surrendered to the program, and now has 7 years clean.

The final speaker was a big lover of Zen. I heard him say to someone before the meeting, when I open my mouth, I will confuse everyone. I totally identified with him.

It doesn't matter what religion or path you follow as long as it is spiritual in nature.

For me, spirituality is giving without expecting back. Spirituality is about taking care of yourself, making healthy choices, so you can pass on a healing and positive message. That doesn't mean I sugar coat it and tell it how others want to hear it, but share it to the best of my ability, as a clean clear channel, sharing the message(s) that I have experienced and given to me by my God. My words are not original, they are what I have heard around the rooms of recovery, in my meditations, my perspective of what I have heard and read over the last 22 years. It doesn't matter that it is 22 years just means that I have been practicing for a very long time.

For me spirit means from within, going within and touching base with my God who resides withing. When I surrender, that spirit is lit, sometimes long dormant because I forgot to feed it and acknowledge that it is there.

Taking me out of the equation, it isn't all about me. We are part of the whole, and unity of spirit keeps us together and why I call a meeting, a God Village.

May you ever walk in the Sunlight of the Spirit. May the White Light of Love and the Fellowship of the Spirit, walk with you each day.

Creation of Woman

By the time The Creator made woman, it was the sixth day of working overtime.
An angel appeared and said, "Why are You spending so much time on this one?"
And The Creator answered, "Have you seen My spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have over 200 movable parts, all replaceable and able to run on diet coke and leftovers, have a lap that can hold four children at one time, have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart -and she will do everything with only two hands."
The angel was astounded at the requirements. "Only two hands!? No way! And that's just on the standard model? That's too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish."
But I won't," The Creator protested. "I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to My own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can work 18 hour days."
The angel moved closer and touched the woman. "But You have made her so soft."
"She is soft," The Creator agreed, "but I have also made her tough.
You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish."
"Will she be able to think?", asked the angel.
The Creator replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate."
The angel then noticed something, and reaching out, touched the woman's cheek. "Oops, it looks like You have a leak in this model.
I told You that You were trying to put too much into this one."
"That's not a leak, that's a tear!"
"What's the tear for?" the angel asked.
"The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her love, her loneliness, her grief and her pride."
The angel was impressed. "You are a genius.
You thought of everything! Woman is truly amazing."
And she is! Women have strengths that amaze men. They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy. They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. They fight for what they believe in. They stand up to injustice. They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution. They go without so their family can have. They go to the doctor with a frightened friend. They love unconditionally. They cry when their children excel and cheers when their friends get awards. They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding. Their hearts break when a friend dies. They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left. They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart. Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning. They bring joy, hope and love. They have compassion and ideals. They give moral support to their family and friends.

Women have vital things to say and everything to give.

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN, IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.

PLEASE pass this along to all your women friends and relatives to remind them just how amazing they are.

God would give me just enough light for the step I am on...that I would learn to walk by faith.
I read this quote on another site. I had never heard it put this way before. I found it to be very empowering. When I am stuck, I know I can surrender in the moment, accept what is in the moment, and ask for help and it will be given to me.

It is my personal belief that the Light comes in at the point of surrender. I can't, God can, and I have to ask for His help. I have to follow it up with action.

Surrender is a Principle of Step One for me. God brought me here, and gives me the tools to stay here, one day at a time.

It goes hand in hand with honesty and acceptance.

Will you take my hand ?

When times are tough, can you take command?

Will you laugh with me,

And share in my glee?

Will you be at my side at every turn,

Teaching me the things I need to learn?

Summer, Winter, Spring, and Fall,

Will you be with me to share it all?

As we walk together year after year,

You may have gone to bed last night weary
and wondering how, when and why?

But thank God you woke up this morning and
placed your feet on the floor. And when you did,
I'm sure the enemy said... "DARN, she (he) is up again!"

That's right. You are up again.
You may still be discouraged, but you are not defeated!

You are up again. Your head is up!
Your gratitude is up! Your faith is up!
You are standing up on your faith.
You are cheering up and looking up.
You are speaking up and thinking up.
You are hooking up with the right people.
You are growing up and maturing in your self-esteem, self-worth and self-control.
You are up and ready to make it through and up out
of your temporary circumstances.

To get better sleep, reduce the news watching and
distance yourself from the negative people.
Prayer is better than prozac.
There is no cost... just a lot of reward.
Make sure you pray, and pray believing God will answer.
May today be all you need it to be.
May the peace of God and the freshness of the Holy Spirit
rest and abide in your thoughts, rule in your dreams tonight,
and conquer all your fears.
May God manifest Himself today in ways you have never experienced.
May your joys be fulfilled, your dreams be closer, and
your prayers be answered. I pray that faith enters a new height
for you; I pray that your territory is enlarged.
I pray for peace, healing, health, happiness, prosperity, joy,
true and undying love for God.

Someone once said, "Aging puts wrinkles on the body.
Quitting puts wrinkles on the soul."

This is a spiritual program, not a religious one. It is finding the power of our belief in something other than ourselves. Yet for me, this power is within me, when I surrender and say my way doesn't work, I am empowered to do what I need to do for myself from the Source, from which all Creation flows.

For me it was so important to limit this power by my "human" concept, but to be open minded and look for God in all things and be open to receiving messages through His messengers.

God isn't the burning bush, but the flower on the bush. He isn't always the bright shining light, but the glimmer and glow that comes from within. He isn't a man of religion, yet if that man's words are divinely inspired, they can empower us.

We are empowered to be Co-Creators of our own Universe.

Because recovery is a spiritual program, and all the Steps have Spiritual Principles, I am hoping that we can all come together and share our recovery.

Powerlessness, willingness, honesty, courage, faith, etc. are all parts of recovery no matter what substance you used to feed your addiction, the Steps are a tool to a better way of life. I can't think my way into good living, I have to live my way into good thinking.

I used alcohol like I used other substances to escape my reality. I am an alcoholic who chooses not to drink today. I am an addict whose drug of choice (in the moment) was always more. I could stop many times, but I could not stay stopped. It was only through the healing and the growth of working the Steps, that I found a Higher Power and the ability to stay stopped.

Written by me in 2005 at 14 years sober.

I not only was able to stay clean and sober, but it helped me deal with all the outside issues I had regarding abuse, mental issues like anxiety and depression, emotional trauma like seeing my brother killed when I was 3 and took on the guilt that it was all my fault, anger, rejection, abandonment, etc.

Spiritual Deficit Disorder - SDD

What is it?

Spiritual Deficit Disorder is the result of chronic stress and constantly feeling overwhelmed with too much to do, too many places to go, deadlines to meet, expectations to live up to, and not enough quality time for YOU.

Spiritual Deficit Disorder occurs when you have lost that special connection with your Essence, your Spirit. It occurs when you are driven by something external to validate You.

Dr. Paul Pearsall, in his book titled "Toxic
Success" states that people who are experiencing SDD (spiritual deficit disorder) suffer from a constant nagging feeling of self doubt and feeling "not enough".

The unfortunate thing about SDD is that no matter how successful one is in the eyes of others, no matter all the achievements and accomplishments...one still feels empty inside, like there is a "missing piece".

For many who suffer from SDD, that nagging feeling of "not enough" and searching for the missing piece, only causes further stress, and a greater longing to return to Spirit. The cycle perpetuates itself until the body can no longer handle the stress and separation from Spirit.

For some, the wake up call is dis-ease in the body, for others it takes its toll on relationships, career, and even family.

People who are cut off from their Essence, their Spirit, have cut themselves off from the very source of their life - Their Heart.

We know that the "Silenced Heart" is the number one cause of Heart disease in America today. Research indicates that what is in our minds, our thoughts and the nagging habits that drive us to separation from our Hearts, is the toxicity that impairs our health and our well being.

We need to slow down, reconnect with our Heart and get in touch with what is most important to us.

How does one do this?

It's far simpler than you may think!

The 4 Secrets To A Healthy Joyful Heart:

1. Breathe - Deeply
We underestimate the power of the breath!
The Hawaiians practice daily whats called the "Ha Rite" which is deep breathing.
Each time you breathe, deeply, from your diaphragm, you are massaging all your organs, especially your Heart. You are also automatically inviting your body to relax... let go and to surrender into the present moment.

2. Take Time For You
No matter what... Take at least 10 minutes a day for YOU - with absolute consistency.
Engage in some activity or hobby that brings your Heart joy, peace and love.
Take a walk in Nature
Listen to your favorite music
Light a candle and just breathe into the flame
Watch a sunset
Visit an animal shelter on the way home
Take a relaxing bubble bath
Have a massage
Turn off the news and BE with YOU
Whatever it is... just do that something special
for You each day!

3. Honor The Wisdom of Your Heart
Take time to get in touch with what your Heart
truly desires.
Listen to your Heart, and honor it.
Practice trusting your Heart's Wisdom... it will
never fail you.

4. Experience Unconditional Love
Unconditional love comes from your Heart... it is your Heart.
When you discover your own unconditional self love you will be living from your open Heart. You will feel more joy, love, peace and true happiness than ever before.
It will change your life!
To learn more about SDD I highly recommend Dr. Paul Pearsall's book "Toxic Success"

conditional"

There is a special place in life, that needs my humble skill,
A certain job I'm meant to do, which no one else can fulfill.

The time will be demanding, the pay is not too good,
And I wouldn't change it for a moment, even if I could.

There is a special place in life, a goal I must attain,
A dream that I must follow because I won't be back again.

There is a mark that I must leave, however small it seems to be.
A legacy of love for those who follow after me.

There is a special place in life, that only I may share.
A little path that bears my name, awaiting me somewhere.

There is a hand that I must hold, a word that I must say,
A smile that I must give, for there are tears to blow away.

There is a special place in life that I was meant to fill.
A sunny spot where flowers grow, upon a windy hill.

There's always a tomorrow and the
best is yet to be, for somewhere
in this world, I know there
is a place for me.

THINK on THESE THINGS
by Joyce Sequichie Hifler
qcbearhugs3.jpg[/IMG]

Texture is that finely woven fabric of life that demands we have a congenial environment. It asks that we be industrious toward success, and that we should have a way of life, a purpose. We should hear the music of life and taste the bitter and the sweet.

Texture requires us to research every experience and learn the lessons in it. It orders us to communicate with life and make discoveries about ourselves and progress toward a texture where the coarse has been refined.

Frequently we should examine the texture of life to identify the quality. How wide is my world? How high is my sky?

All of us should know our own makeup, our capabilities, our gifts with which we have been divinely endowed. And we should think long on these words from Edna St. Vincent Millay's Renascence:
"The world stands out on either side no wider than the heart is wide. Above the world is stretched the sky, no higher than the soul is high."

My primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery and to share my experience, strength, and hope with others, with the desire and hope, that it will help someone else. I had no purpose in life prior to entering the doors of recovery. I was marking time, existing instead of living.

MajestyJo 12-07-2013 02:28 PM

The awareness that is growing in you now is not the result of any conscious 'doing', nor do you need to struggle to make something happen. Any sense you might have had that you've been groping in the dark is dissolving now, or will be dissolving soon. Let yourself settle, and remember that deep inside you are just a witness, eternally silent, aware and unchanged. A channel is now opening from the circumference of activity to that center of witnessing. It will help you to become detached, and a new awareness will lift the veil from your eyes.

- Zen

So many times in recovery, the light just goes on. I am travelling this road of enlightenment with blinder on with no knowingness, and am but a child who has been reborn of the spirit. Every once in a while the light goes on and I get new direction, new hope and I start to see things in a new light.

So glad that the Serenity Prayer can not be worn out. It has been a true blessing to me. Short and to the point, it allows me recognize that of myself I am nothing, with God all things are possible.

One of the biggest results of prayer is the fact that I am sober 22 years. For that alone, I will be eternally grateful.

Prayer has been the answer for me for so many years. So many times I found myself stressed, only to feel the hand of my God, touch me and bring me peace. I always liked the saying, "God answer's knee-mail." The old knee doesn't allow me to go there any more but I think it is the surrender of the mind and spirit as much as it is the body, so have to accept 2 out of 3 these days.

The most important thing that I have learned is that is good to pray but it is more important to be still and listen for the answers. Faith for me isn't praying over and over again for the same thing, but praying and leaving things in God's Hands. I do pray and put a person in God's Hands and give them what they need instead of putting a request as to what I think they need. Not easy, but I try not to play God with other people's lives these days.

Today, I broke my rule of only buying $3. worth of Nevada Tickets. I spent $5. and didn't get anything. I was in the process of beating myself up while walking out of the mall and met up with an Al-Anon member. If I hadn't stopped to play the tickets I would have missed her. $5. is a small price to pay for a mini-meeting. I just tried to put some good into a not so good thing.

The Watchmaker - In charge of all of creation. As my friend says to me, "Put it out to the Universe and see what you get back."

http://kids4truth.com/Dyna/Watchmaker/English.aspx

I found it to be awesome!

My thought tonight was, "God is but a prayer away." Sometimes that prayer is simply a word, "Help" and has more meaning now than it did when I was using. No longer, "Help me get out of this mess and I'll never do it again."

So many things I can't change, I don't have the power. I do have the choice. I can pray and ask for help. When that prayer is answered, I am empowered to do what I need to do for myself or other people are put in my path, and all I have to do is accept God's gracious gift for what is, not as I would have it be. When prayers are answered, a prayer of thanksgiving should always follow. Mine is generally, "Thank you, thank you, thank you," when I am aware and able to acknowledge a gift from my God.

A direct result of prayer that works, the prayers don't stop here, they continue.

A New Strength

There are times in every life when we feel hurt or alone…
But I believe that these times when we feel lost
and all around us seems to be falling apart
are really bridges of growth.

We struggle and try to recapture the security of what was,
but almost in spite of ourselves,
we emerge on the other side with a new understanding,
a new awareness, a new strength.
It is almost as though we must go through the pain
and the struggle in order to grow and reach new heights.

What it takes to persist

Quote:

What it takes to persist

You already have what it takes to persist. For persistence is nothing more than continuing to do what you've been doing.

Persistence makes the difference between no achievement and great achievement. And persistence is available to all who choose it.

The enemy of persistence is that little voice you hear in your head that urges you to give up. When you hear that voice, remember that you don't have to do what it says, and you don't have to fight it either.

Just listen to that voice, allow it to have its say, and then calmly let it go. Keep on going and you'll quickly be beyond it.

Remember often, with great detail and passion, why you've chosen to do what you're doing. Keep your focus on the goal, and know that by continuing to progress on your journey, one step at a time, you'll get there.

Persistence isn't complicated, and it doesn't require you to uncover some deep, dark, closely guarded secret. You have what it takes if you'll simply choose to do what it takes and persist until the job is done.

-- Ralph Marston
I really like this reading. Persistence is how I stayed sober. I just knew I couldn't go back to where I came from, even though I was in denial about being an alcoholic, I just kept coming.

So many times over the years, I have been sick and tired, and tired of being sick. I have had that voice say, "What is the use?" "Enough is enough already!" "Who cares?" only to discover, I care and more importantly, the God of my understanding cares.

It says persist until the job is done, yet I will always be an alcoholic and my disease is there, whether I want to acknowledge it or not. So I have to persist, one day at a time, to do the do things I need for my recovery.

I can't
My God can
Just for today, I choose to let Him.

I can't give up. I can't be a couch potato. I got sober to live. Live clean and sober. If I stop, my disease might catch up and I might let my God go, because I am listening to my disease instead of my God. Step 3 says we need to make a decision to put our life in God's Care. Part of my persistence is saying that prayer and turning my day, one day at a time, to my God and who He would have me be and do.

Instead of being a couch potato, I can rest in my God's Care and know He will lead me in the way He would have me go. Sometimes I just need that quiet time, and persist on not letting anything else interfere, my thoughts or other people's words and actions.

Surrender

Quote:

Reflection for the Day 2003

The first psychiatrist to recognize the work of Alcoholics Anonymous, Dr. Harry Tiebout, used many concepts of The Program in his own practice. Over many years, the doctor's study of the "conversion experience" led him to see, first, that it is the act of surrender which initiates the switch from negative to positive; second, that the positive phase is really a state of surrender which follows the act of surrender; and third, that the state of surrender, if maintained, supplies an emotional tone to all thinking and feeling that insures healthy adjustment. Am I living in a constant state of surrender?

Today I Pray

May I understand that I do not have to "unlearn" my respect for "self-reliance," that trait of character, which I heard praised so often from the time I was a tiny child. Only my understanding of the word must change. For as I come to know that "self" is part of God, that I am nothing except in His Being, there is no quarrel between self-reliance and God-reliance. May I rely upon that self, which is God's.

Today I Will Remember

Not part-god, but part of God.

You are reading from the book:

A Day at a Time by Anonymous
Surrender is such a big part of my recovery. I have to surrender my thoughts, my problems, my joys and my very being over to the God of my understanding.

It is only by surrender that I am empowered to do what I need to do for myself on a daily basis. Of myself I am nothing, but through Him, I can become all things.

I must always remain teachable, open to all things, and most importantly self-honesty. Without that, I am living delusional and full of grandeur of my own self-importance, rather than in love and humility.

Quote:

Not part-god, but part of God.
Really like this. God is or He isn't! We can be god like or like God's image as to who we should be in today.

Unburden yourself

Many of the little things that cause you continuing frustration can be greatly reduced or eliminated. It's simply a matter of taking the time and making the effort to do so.
The small frustrations are usually the easiest to get rid of. Because they are small, though, you may not have made it a priority to deal with them.

Remember, however, that the small frustrations add up quickly. When combined together, they can impose a major burden on your time and your life.

So make the choice to unburden yourself from them, one by one. Devote some time to ridding yourself of many of those little frustrations that can add together to drag you down.

At first glance, it may seem like a waste to spend an hour or two dealing with something that normally sets you back only a few minutes each day. Yet if you can save yourself those few minutes, day after day, month after month, it can add up to an enormous amount of time.

And by freeing yourself from more and more small frustrations, you free your mind and your spirit to focus on the positive, meaningful things. Find ways to unburden yourself from the little frustrations, and you'll find opportunities to add greatly to the richness of life.

-- Ralph Marston
Had a friend call me today. We have known each other for 15 years. I was at her wedding to a guy from AA, who I have known for about 18 years.

She just got home from the hospital and wanted to let me know she was home. She really sounded good and up-beat and made a point of telling her so.

A burden shared is lessened. If you share with another you are only left with half. If you go to a meeting and there is a lot of members there, that is bonus.

You are reading from the book Each Day a New Beginning

Love doesn't just sit there like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; re-made all the time, made new.
—Ursula K. LeGuin

We love to be loved; we love to be held; we love to be caressed. A show of appreciation we love too. And we love to know we've been heard. The friends, the spouses, the children in our lives want the same from us. Like a garden that needs water, sun, weeding to nurture the growth, so does love need attending to. To become whole and healthy women, we need tender nurturing. And we also need to give away what we get. Those we nurture will bless our growth.

Love is dynamic, not static. It is always changing, and it always changes those it enfolds. Since coming into this program where the sharing of oneself, the open expression of love, is profoundly evident, we each have changed. And our presence has changed others. We have learned to accept love and give it. But better yet, we have learned that we deserve love.

I will look around me today at others, and I will remember, my growth and theirs depends on loving and being loved. I will reach out. I can make love new.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Found the reading to be very powerful. I looked out of myself for years to find love. What I came to realize when I came into recovery, and my son got caught up in his addiction, I passed a lot of my fears along to him.

I didn't know how to show and express love and the two of us are getting better now he too is in recovery yet I know he still has a problem with it. I try to remember to say, I Love You Son" when he phones. He doesn't have a phone I can call to get in touch with him. So my love is sent in prayer and hopefully, he is open to receiving it.

I heard more years ago than I care to remember, about a little boy who was asked who God was. He replied, Teacher, everyone knows, God is a feeling."

If I had to add a feeling to God. It would be love. It is unconditional, forgiving, and caring.

God is as He reveals Himself to me today. The key for me, is to keep looking for Him. When I think I KNOW who God is, I might just stop looking and listening for Him.

God is great. God is good. Let us thank Him for this food. For the food and everything else in my life. He has been very good to me.

God is Good. Good is God. God is Love. Love is God.

Quote:

1 John 4:18-19
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.

~ God Knew ~

http://www.angelwinks.net/images/icq...sangelcard.jpg

God knew there would be times
You'd need a word of cheer
Someone to praise a triumph
Or brush away a tear.
He knew you'd need to share
The joy of little things
In order to appreciate
The happiness life brings.
He knew your troubled heart
Would sometimes throb with pain
At trials and misfortunes
Or some goals you can't attain.
He knew you'd need some comfort
And loving guidance too
So, He answered the heart's great need
And sent an Angel just for you.

Someone Thought About You Today
In A Very Special Way
Someone Who Cares About You
And Is Reaching Out To Touch Your Heart
Bet You Have Someone That You Care About Also
Let Them Know That They Are In Your Thoughts
Send Them This Special Message Too!

Like the Eagle I fly,
I soar with the clouds on High.
Wind in my feathers,
like a breeze blowing through heather.

I ride the wind with out thought or care,
wishing this feeling I could share.
The higher i soar the cord stretches thin,
I disconnect from Mother Earth, leaving my Kin.

I long to fly, to the Sun...beyond,
this earthly body leave behind with the flick of a wand.
Fly on and on to new places and worlds,
a messenger of love, a peace herald.

I reach the end of the cord feel it pull,
I look back at my home that tiny world.
The more I look the futher back I fall
Then I slam back into my body in no time at all.

As I catch my breath, taking my journey to mind.
I realise only glimpses leaving the bulk behind.
The feelings however are held deep in my heart,
Which is still soaring the heavens, never the two shall part .

He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
We have to learn to crawl before we can walk. We need to listen and learn, not continue to think we know it all. Be like a child, walk in trust and love.

Whatever our hands touch-
We leave fingerprints!
On walls, on furniture
On doorknobs, dishes, books.
There's no escape.
As we touch we leave our identity.

Oh God, wherever I go today
Help me leave heartprints!
Heartprints of compassion
Of understanding and love.

Heartprints of kindness
And genuine concern.
May my heart touch a lonely neighbor
Or a runaway daughter
Or an anxious mother
Or perhaps an aged grandfather.

Lord, send me out today
To leave heartprints.
And if someone should say,
"I felt your touch,"
May that one sense YOUR LOVE
Touching through ME.

love hate
desire aversion
joy sadness
fear courage
hope despair
happiness anger
acceptance/rejection

Received this list from a friend and added the last one myself.

Feel the feelings and do it anyway.
Just because you have a feeling, doesn't mean you have act on it.
Feel it, label it, know it for what it is. Don't try to shove it away, bury it, ignore it, but allow yourself to feel so you can heal.

“They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

- Carl W. Buechner

“You can close your eyes to the things you do not want to see, but you cannot close your heart to the things you do not want to feel.”

Some of my favorite recovery sayings are:

"Feel the fear and do it any way."

FEAR

- Face everythings and recover

- Flee everything and run

When I was three and my brother was two, I saw him killed and blamed myself for his death. From that time onward, I shoved down the feelings and didn't want to feel. I have no visual of this event, all I had were the words in my head, "Dougie come out of the way." I thought because he was coming to me, I killed him. What I didn't know until I learned in my 50s from my aunt, was that I had nominated myself as his caretaker the day he was born. A lot to take on 9 days before her 2nd birthday.

Make the journey from your head to your heart.

Don't take on what is not yours.

A short time ago, a friend who is special to me and has been a big part of my recovery, called to say that she celebrated her birthday this morning. I didn't wake up in time to go, so glad she phoned me. I spoke at her 18th anniversary. I was so honoured, because she showed up as support and 2/3s of the meetings I shared my story at.

I was telling her about seeing the young fellow being hit by a car the other day, I didn't know if he was alive or dead, but he appeared to be dead. Every time I see an accident, hear a siren, I try to remember to say a prayer. He looked to be young, somewhere around 20 years old.

After talking to her, I remembered that while walking home after seeing the accident, I small brown dove walked in front of me. The Dove according to D. J. Conway, says a dove's attributes are:

Communicating with friends and loved ones who are in spirit. Spiritual messenger between words.
Peace, gentleness, love.

FULLY RELIANT ON GOD

http://www.animated-gifs.eu/water-frogs/0286.gif

Do I rely on Him completely?
Do I trust Him with everything?
Or do I try to carry all the burdens
that each day so often brings.

It's not enough to simply say it.
But can I live it day to day?
Relying fully on the One who loves me.
And the precious words He has to say.

He's waiting there to hear me.
He's watching over me, I know.
Why do I only talk with Him
when I've no where else to go?

Fellowship isn't just believing.
It means allowing Him into my heart.
The light of my salvation
leaves nothing hidden in the dark.

Father, do not let me continue
hiding what I think you cannot see.
For it is because you love me
That you came to set me free.

"Child come out of the darkness.
Take my hand and follow me."
No matter what is in the shadows,
forgiveness and love is what I see.

"Rely upon my love," He says.
"Trust that I have it all in hand."
Do I believe Him? Do I trust Him?
Is He as shifting as the sand?

Are the words He's spoken
lies ... or in faith can I truly live
FULLY RELIANT ON GOD
for it is the only way to Him

The Loveliness Of Silence

http://www.animated-gifs.eu/phone-24...flies/0192.gif

No one's ever heard a butterfly,
It cannot speak nor sing,
It just hovers quietly around,
And shows off its pretty wings.

Each tiny wing - a masterpiece,
Of intricate design,
With hues that blend and complement,
So tranquil and refined.

And no one's ever heard a firefly,
Turn on its tiny light,
Without a click, it flips its switch,
And makes no noise in the night.

And there it is, in all its glory,
Its wee light flashing off and on,
Until it disappears in silence,
Along with moths across the lawn.

And what about white fleecy clouds,
That aimlessly drift by?
They help us dream of things unseen,
Though we can't hear them in the sky.

Like soft meringue, they peak and hang,
Soundlessly above the ground,
They tantalize our seeking eyes,
We watch in awe; they make no sound.

Puffs of smoke from chimney tops,
Come skipping through the air,
Gentle breezes make them dance,
What lovely visions there.

But we can't hear a puff of smoke,
Nor can we hold it in our hands,
But we can watch it float away,
Silently across the land.

First snow of Winter on the ground,
Untouched, unmarked, pristine,
Lace-like frost on window panes,
Crystal icicles that gleam.

Impressive beauties, everyone,
That inspire men to whisper,
To not disturb the reverie,
Of such a wondrous mixture.

A white, full moon on a still, black night,
With a host of silver stars,
Free to see and wish upon,
And spend lovely, quiet hours.

In splendid stillness, lies that night,
With peaceful beauty there,
Which forces one to bended knee,
In grateful, silent prayer.

A baby's smile, a sleeping child,
A napping cat upon a lap,
Pleasurable and treasurable,
All silent joys that entrap.

True, a picture's worth a thousand words,
Though it never makes a sound,
It communicates in ways unheard,
And lasts forever and beyond.

It's the lovely, silent things we see.
That our ears will never hear,
That speak loudly to our listening hearts,
Distinct, succinct, and clear.

We're grateful that God gave us ears,
To hear His awesome sounds,
Yet the loveliness of silence,
Is wondrous, too, when it is found.

Emotions wash over me, like the ocean over the sands
Slowly edging down my cheek, a tiny teardrop falls to land
Upon the line filled pages; from the corner of my mind,
Sad, forgotten memories, that poetry's message seeks to find.

Lost images and feelings cascade through curtained pain
Flowing onto paper, with the hopes of insights, growth to gain,
The power of the pen - so much mightier than the sword
Is found within the messages - that lyrics and poems can afford.

Lyrics that encourage One Day At A Time
And silent search within yourself, for the Hero you will find
For hidden strength and courage, to capacity to heal
Is found within the messages - that songs and poetry conceals.

So listen very carefully. Take heed of the words being said
And apply them to your daily life
And the good and bad times ahead.

Take in the soothing comfort
That these gifts of prose provide
For it's through the grace of God that these messages arrive.

I am God. Today I will be handling all of your problems. Please remember that I do not need your help.

If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do not attempt to resolve it. Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box. All situations will be resolved, but in My time, not yours.

Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it. Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now.

If you find yourself stuck in traffic; Don't despair. There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.

Should you have a bad day at work; Think of the man who has been out of work for years.

Should you despair over a relationship gone bad; Think of the person who has never known what it's like to love and be loved in return.

Should you grieve the passing of another weekend; Think of the woman in dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week to feed her children.

Should your car break down, leaving you miles away from assistance; Think of the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk.

Should you notice a new gray hair in the mirror; Think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.

Should you find yourself at a loss and pondering what is life all about, asking what is my purpose? Be thankful. There are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.

Should you find yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, ignorance, smallness or insecurities; Remember, things could be worse. You could be one of them!

Should you decide to send this to a friend; Thank you, you may have touched their life in ways you will never know

I am sure this has been seen by many before today. For me, it always seems to arrive in my mailbox when I have a problem with letting go.

Working Through Silence
Noise as a Distraction

Our lives are typically filled with noise. There are the noises from the outside world that we cannot control, and there are the noises we allow into our lives. These noises, from seemingly innocuous sources like the television and radio, can actually help us avoid dealing with uncomfortable thoughts and emotions. However, using noise as a distraction hurts more than it helps because you are numbing yourself to what may be internally bubbling up to the surface for you to look at and heal. Distracting yourself with talk-radio, television, or other background noises can also prevent you from finding closure to issues that haunt you.

Noise as a distraction can affect us in many ways. It can help you stay numb to emotions that you don’t want to feel, allow you to avoid dealing with problems, distract you from having to think, and make it easier for you to forget reality. Drowning out the thoughts and emotions you find uncomfortable or overwhelming can complicate your issues because it allows them to fester. By tuning out noise and relishing silence, you create the space to experience and express what you are hiding. It is only then that self-exploration can begin in earnest and you can stare down frightening issues. In silence, it becomes easier to let your strongest feelings come forth, deal with them, and find new ways of resolving your problems.

When you go within without the veil of noise to shield you from yourself, you’ll be able to figure out what you need to heal. Embracing silence and introspection allows you to work through your thoughts and emotions and transmute them. Free of the need for noise, you can accept your pain, anger, and frustration as they come up and turn them into opportunities to evolve.

What do you think?
Seems like I shared a little bit about this on an earlier post. I could not be alone with myself and had to have the noise happening around me. Now I can make that inward journey when the noise and chaos is there and find peace and quiet.

Translating Our Feelings

Quote:

DAILY OM

Translating Our Feelings

Are You Excited Or Scared?

When new challenges and opportunities show up in our lives, we may diagnose ourselves as feeling scared when what we really feel is excited. Often we have not been taught how to welcome the thrill of a new opportunity, and so we opt to back off, indulging our anxiety instead of awakening our courage. One way to inspire ourselves to embrace the opportunities that come our way is to look more deeply into our feelings and see that butterflies in our stomach or a rapidly beating heart are not necessarily a sign that we are afraid. Those very same feelings can be translated as excitement, curiosity, passion, and even love.

There is nothing wrong with being afraid as long as we do not let it stop us from doing the things that excite us. Most of us assume that brave people are fearless, but the truth is that they are simply more comfortable with fear because they face it on a regular basis. The more we do this, the more we feel excitement in the face of challenges rather than anxiety. The more we cultivate our ability to move forward instead of backing off, the more we trust ourselves to be able to handle the new opportunity, whether it?s a new job, an exciting move, or a relationship. When we feel our fear, we can remind ourselves that maybe we are actually just excited. We can assure ourselves that this opportunity has come our way because we are meant to take it.

Framing things just a little differently can dramatically shift our mental state from one of resistance to one of openness. We can practice this new way of seeing things by saying aloud: I am really excited about this job interview. I am really looking forward to going on a date with this amazing person. I am excited to have the opportunity to do something I have never done before. As we do this, we will feel our energy shift from fear, which paralyzes, to excitement, which empowers us to direct all that energy in the service of moving forward, growing, and learning.

What do you think?
Like this, it is not from a recovery fellowship, but very spiritual in nature.

How do we open our mind, change our way of thinking and allow ourselves to accept a new way of life. Feeling are feeling and we have to accept them, it is what we do with them that is makes the difference them. Instead of acting out we learn how to express them and let them go in a healthy way.

As it says here, it is all energy, changing the negative into a positive.

For me it was acknowledging, not turning my back or ignoring it or pulling on the blanket of denial or burying it, but acknowledging it, perusing it, recognizing it for what it is, if need be look at the source, and surrender to the program and apply the Steps, then let go and let God.

As You Believe

Create Completeness

The creative power of the universe is infinite. A single molecule's destiny is as important as the consequences of the largest supernova. Human potential is subject to this power, but because we are sentient beings, each of us is permitted to choose whether we will struggle against it or work in tandem with it. When we give voice to our desires through focused meditation or solicit the help of spirit guides, we draw upon the universe's creative power to achieve certain ends. However, because our words are not all the universe hears, the response we receive may surprise us. The discourse we establish through our appeals is a blend of speech, thought, intention, and subconscious reflection. When we ask the universe for something, the unspoken message is that what we want does not exist, and the universe accepts this as truth. Conversely, we manifest completeness through affirmations in which we declare our desires as if we have already obtained them.

When we affirm that we are fulfilled instead of articulating deficiencies, we are asserting that contentment is a natural and necessary element of human existence. Our essence is an expression of fulfillment—the universe wants to satisfy our needs and desires. When we describe our realities in positive terms, we are not denying the challenges inherent in existence. We choose not to focus on lack or dissatisfaction because we understand that the energy of our thoughts will determine the response we receive to our entreaties. Ask yourself how you would feel if your wishes were granted, and then allow yourself to internalize that emotional state. Try to create a picture of satisfaction so vivid that its reality is unquestionable and tell the universe that your vision is fact. At the close of your appeal, express your gratitude, as it is your acknowledgement of the truth of your fulfillment that will set the creative power of the universe into motion.

Working in perfect unison with the creative power of the universe will empower you to manifest spiritual realities in your material existence. As you affirm the beauty, peace, and goodness that already exist within in your life, your capacity to sense and understand their influence will become increasingly sophisticated. To meet your needs and achieve your desires, you need then only banish all thoughts of emptiness so that the energy of completeness can attract fullness into your being.

What do you think?
Posted in 2007

This makes me aware of how much we express ourselves mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Actions often speak louder than words and that the body does often have a different language other than the words it speaks. When you listen to the tones of the voice when it is speaking, the sighs, the shrugs, the eyes, often give way to hidden thoughts and actions.

When you feel empty, go to the Universe (The God of your Understanding) and ask for what you need to be filled up)

GET INSPIRED!

There is a voice in the Universe urging us to remember our purpose for being on this great Earth. This is the voice of inspiration, which is within each and every one of us.

Throughout life, the two most futile emotions are guilt for what has been done and worry about what might be done.
