Default A Dog Eat Dog World

One of the first things all of us find easy to enjoy about being in recovery when we're new is the comfort of being among people who are not trying to get ahead by running over us. In recovery we find everyone wants to help, and they keep saying that's what helps them. We're all so accustomed to living in a dog eat dog world where it didn't matter what anyone did to get ahead as long as they did, and helping someone else was usually out of the picture. Most of us aren't sure that we can trust this at first. Everyone wanting to help us, we're sure there's got to be some hidden reason they want to do this, and that later on this is going to end up biting us. As we went along in recovery we saw that the people here were not out to get us, and most of them did want to sincerely help. They kept telling us over and over that the reason for doing this is that it helps them, and that they will teach us how we can do this too, and that this works where everything else fails, so that all of us can find some way to live with the way all of us are without any of us having to die because of being that way. Because of doing this, helping each other we're all able to do together what none of us could do on our own and that's to keep from dying from this problem we all have. It's pretty amazing if someone thinks about it. How does that even work ? It actually works really well and better than anything else ever does.
