Default Grateful ABCs

A is for Acceptance. I need to be accepting of what is in today. I don't have to like it, but I do have to find a measure of acceptance, or I can't move through it. I am where I am in today as a result of decisions made. In today, I try to make healthy choices.

B is for Bountiful. The gifts of this program are bountiful. All we have to do to receive them is work the Steps and apply them to our lives. We can do what I can't do alone. Just the gift of being never alone is priceless in and of itself.

As we stay clean and sober, we can enjoy the bounty of nature and what our Creator made for us.

C is for Cover. Cover your trail or your a$$, depending on how you want to look at it. Things can come along and bite us if we don't deal with them. We may ignore them, but if they want to get our attention, they can be very sneaky and straight forward and say, "Hey! Listen up, you need to learn this lesson before you move forward." We have to close doors before we open another one.

I think this is a "Yeah but...!"

E is for Effort. We only get out of our program what we put into it. An "E" on a report card is less than grade for our achievements. We felt less than prior to recovery, so why should we settle for less now. We tend to be overachievers, but when it comes to helping ourselves we often slack off. I am grateful that this program in progress not perfection.

I is for Identify. Identify, don't compare with others. We each have our own gifts and they are God given. Don't be afraid to be different. I need to do what I need to do for my recovery.

J is Just for Today. We need to remember that it is just for these 24 hours that we need to stay clean and sober. Just for today, I will apply the program to my life. Just for today, I will not pick up and use people, places and things. Recovery begins with me.
