Why Read The Bible?
Why Read The Bible?
"I'm a busy person. I have a lot to do. Why should I spend my time reading the Bible? I don't have time to do all I need to do as it is." "I already believe in Jesus Christ, that He's the Son of God and my Savior. I've already heard the Gospel." "Why should I read the Bible?" Please think about the following Scriptures. Then, you will understand why you should read the Bible. JOHN 8:31-32 RSV 31 Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." JOHN 14:23-24 RIEU 23 Jesus replied: 'If anyone loves me he will cherish my word; my Father will love him and we will come to him and make him our abode. 24 He that does not love me neglects my words. Yet the word you hear is not my own but that of the Father who sent me. ACTS 20:32 NKJ 32 "So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. SAY THIS: I will read and study the Bible. A Bible Devotion

Why Read The Bible?
The more I read and re-read the truths first take that plunge from my head to the heart. Then.....the the more I read & re-read the truths & my understanding go deeper & deeper and the more those God whispers become clearer & clearer and maybe that is saying the same thing as the above...only different...just in BW speak. |

Saw this earlier and meant to post and didn't get to it. The thought that came to mind was, "Why not read the Bible?"
You have time for other things, why not the Bible?" When I was new in recovery, I had a very big, big resentment against the church, religion, and yet when I got to AA, they said it was a spiritual program and that I had to find a God of my understanding. The only God of my understanding was the only I had learned in my childhood growing up in the church my grandfather had built. It was a country church, very simple and as I later came to realize, one very close to God and nothing got between you and the Lord, unless you let it. I let it, I left the country for the big city and along the way, I kept picking things up to make me feel better, and every time I did, I lost a piece of me instead of going within and connecting with my God. I was very fragmented and when I came into recovery, I started reading my Bible. It was the only thing I knew. I would say a little prayer at night, open the Bible and read the page that opened and would right down the words that spoke to me. I was later given the Bible Serenity which cross referenced the AA 12 Steps with the Bible, and all but two of my Bible meditations for my first year of recovery referenced a Step. I had been working and living the 12 Steps, and hadn't even realized it. I could stop drinking but couldn't stay stopped until I found the spiritual solution to the disease of addiction. Religion was not enough. I was raised on religion. It was that spirituality that enhanced my religious beliefs that made the difference for me. Thanks for letting me share.
