Default The Groups

To be in recovery we have to decide to let ourselves become involved with a group of people who are complete strangers that we have no way of knowing we can trust. The decision is not an easy one to make, to allow ourselves to do this, it's hard for all of us to decide. Some won't make this decision, and some can't see themselves belonging to anything they can't be sure they can trust, but there are those who for whatever reason are able to do this. We can make it a lot easier for ourselves by knowing that all we have to do to begin is just show up, and then realize that nothing is going to be asked of us. That it's okay if we just show up at first, and know that later on we can decide what we're comfortable with and don't have to do anything unless we want to. If we're not comfortable with one group we just keep looking until we find one that we are because it's key to us being able to get well. It is through the groups and the people in them where the program of recovery is found, and although the people we'll meet are far from being perfect, we'll still be able to hear the message we need to hear from them, and most importantly this sets the bar for our own recovery that we need not be perfect to get it, as well.
