Default To Be Honest

TO BE HONEST

Honesty is the best policy. When we are honest, we don’t have to keep our stories straight. When we are honest, we don’t have to remember what we told one person so we can be sure to tell others the same thing. When we are honest, we can set the example for others. It is just natural for people to trust an honest person. It’s time we examined our lives and ensured what we do and say is what is true and right. And if it is not, we need to pray asking God to give us the self-control to always tell the truth.

Romans 12:3 “Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we know You call us to be honest. We know You want us to tell the truth no matter what. Help us to be godly and to walk with integrity. Help us to be honest with ourselves, with others and with You. Help us to remember honesty is always the best policy. Give us the self-control today to be honest and live only for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we are honest with others, we will gain their respect and set an example for them to follow.

Proverbs 20:7 “The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.” (NLT)

Proverbs 19:1 “Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool.” (NLT)

Proverbs 28:6 “Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and rich.” (NLT)

If you are honest in the little things, it will be easier to be honest in the bigger things.

Luke 16:10 ““If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” (NLT)

Focus: Be sure every action you take is right and every word you say is truth and doing the right things for God.

Honesty is the first spiritual principle of the program of AA and all the other 12 Step programs. It isn't just about being honest that I am an alcoholic or an addict, it is about self-honesty, and going within and healing all the times I was honest to myself and others.

My self-honesty may not be the same as others, because I probably didn't walk the same road they did, certainly not in their shoes.

The thought that came to mind was that I was an introvert, who found alcohol and she became an extrovert and a very social person. As my disease grew, I retired into my old self, full of fear and looking for false courage. Then I found AA, and slowly as I healed I became an extrovert, but not with the brassy balls that I had when I was using.

I try to be as honest as I can be on each given day. That honesty has to be followed with an open mind to really see reality and my own personal truth and a willingness to change, be it big or small, it all adds up and festers and I need to bring thing to light that I may see, and be truly honest about myself. It is not about others, it is about me, my reactions to them, and how I allowed them to push my buttons or gave way because they said it was truth.

There was nothing I hated more in life than to be called a lier. I was brought up to be honest, I just didn't know that I lied to myself.
