Default Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

Today's Scripture

"He saw Simon and Andrew…they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, `Follow Me…' Immediately they left their nets and followed Him…He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother…Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went away to follow Him." – Mark 1:16-20 NASB

Thoughts for Today
.
The disciples of Jesus had come from different backgrounds and careers. Yet each had been called by Jesus and left everything to follow Him and learn from Him. Their commitment was so total that they were forced to depend entirely on Jesus for every need.

Jesus was aware of the kind of commitment this required. When a scribe told Him, "I will follow You wherever You go," Jesus warned, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head"(Matthew 8:19-20). In other words, His followers would need to follow Him regardless of the difficult conditions.

Recognizing his practical needs, another man was reluctant to follow Jesus. He asked to first "go and bury my father." But Jesus emphasized that following Him must become an all-consuming focus: "Follow Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead" (Matthew 8:21-22).

How would His disciples deal with practical needs? By trusting Him and making this an integral part of their prayer lives. Jesus taught them to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread." But their primary prayer focus was to be on God Himself: "Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10-11).

In your life, be sure to follow the pattern Jesus gave His disciples: Focus on God's Kingdom. Make an absolute commitment to follow Jesus wherever He leads. Trust Him to meet your needs. He is faithful.

Prayer: "Our Loving Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me. I will follow You wherever You lead me. I seek first the Kingdom of God. Thank You for providing my daily bread. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."

Have a Blessed Thursday and God Bless you.
