Chill out
"Get some rest." Mark 6:31 NIV Sometimes the biggest head-pecker isn't our Mum, Dad or teacher - it's ourselves! You beat yourself up because you're not this or you're not that, you didn't do this, you didn't do that. Guilt shouts you down, failure laughs in your face, and all you can do is nominate yourself for 'loser of the year'. Once you're at that stage, best pack your suitcase and send your brain for a well needed vacation. We all need a rest from time to time. Yeah, but isn't chilling out just being lazy? Of course not, even Jesus knew there was a time for chilling. Check out Mark 6:30-32: 'The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done...Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place' (Mark 6:30-32 NIV). Jesus understood that if you don't take a break, you'll break! So: a) make most of your time, get things done, but make sure you plan in decent chill out b) Go easy on yourself if you've not lived up to your own hyper-perfect standards c) Stop comparing yourself to swot of the year, you've got your own goals d) Chill, baby, chill!
