Topic of the Week, Words that Begin with "D"
We are only as sick as our secrets. Our disease loves to eat at them, blow them out of proportion, and applies a little guilt along with some resentments, and we find ourselves back to where we came from, wondering how we got there.

D is for Do. Do from the heart, not out of duty. If you heart isn't in it, it is drudge and you become resentful and you are opening a door for your disease to creep back into your life. Do the do things: Go to meetings, get a sponsor, get a home group, work the Steps so you can learn to apply them into your daily life.

D is for Drugs. Drugs come in all shapes and sizes. As I like to say: wet, dry, and the flesh and blood variety.
Drugs are an inanimate object until such a time as I make the decision to pick them up. The drinking, drugging, and dysfunctional relationships are issues, but it the thinking behind the dis-ease. I was at dis-ease within myself, so I reach for things outside of myself to make me feel better. Drugs are anything that comes between me, and who my God would have me be and do in today. This disease is an allergy, we don't metabolize things a normal person does. It is an obsessive, compulsive disease that take over our mind and we can't see any thing but the drug, we block out or leave behind all thought of people, places, and things, and it becomes all about me. Alcohol is a drug. Food is a drug, we stuff our feelings and detach from what we don't want to deal with. Work can be a drug if we work so hard we use it to escape our reality. We can become addicted to our partner or family and we live our life through them and lose ourselves. Each time I picked up a drug, I lost a piece of me. When I quit drinking, drugs (prescription drugs), food, relationship and learned to take care of me, it was important to fill myself up with the spiritual substance of this program, instead of substituting another drug (obsessive/compulsive objects-shopping, my computer, Bejeweled3 a game I played for years, and had to pray about it to have my attitude change and my obsession removed).

D is for Divine Orderly Good. No matter who your God is, whether it is opposite to what others believe in, if you turn your thoughts of God around, you get Dog. DOG stands for divine orderly good. Can't go wrong with the goodness in your heart and what you give to others.

Anger is just one letter short of Danger.

D is for Doubt. If you doubt yourself, you are doubting your God. I was told this in early recovery and it really shook me up. Who am I to doubt God and tell Him what to do and how to do it?

D is for Don't Drink and Drug. Just for today, choose not to use. The body manufactures the pain to say you need more. Our drug of choice becomes more, no matter what substance we choose to pick up. It is an inanimate object until such a time as we decide to ingest it. Drugs can be in front of us on the table in front of us, but that doesn't mean we have to pick it up, just because it is there.
Why should I put myself in a position, where they are available and put myself in danger? When I have a thought, I don't need to react, I can turn it over to my God and ask for His Help and Direction.
