Default Flour Power

Flour Power

2 Peter 1:7 - To godliness, add kindness to believers. And to kindness to believers, add love. (NIRV)

Years ago, when my children were growing up, I learned that there is real power in homemade baked goods. The way a glass of milk and a couple of homemade cookies revived my children and their friends after a challenging day at school always amazed me. I started referring to this transformation as "flour power".

My children have grown and moved away now, and I have been a widow for several years, but I still love to bake. So, I decided to try to find people who might enjoy having some homemade bread, cookies, cakes, etc. I wondered if "flour power" might also transform mature adults in challenging situations.

Now, I bake for a neighbour who doesn't like being in the kitchen and for friends living in retirement centers who miss that homemade taste. I also bake for my friends living in their own homes whose advanced years make standing in the kitchen to bake impossible for them to do.

The words and notes of appreciation I receive have made me a believer in the universality of "flour power". Today's Scripture tells us that we are to show kindness and love to believers, but I like sharing with non-believers as well. One person who receives my cookies vowed when I first met him that he hated Christians. Now, he looks forward to his homemade goodies each Friday, and he tells me he has found one Christian he doesn't hate. "Flour power" is just amazing!

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the many gifts and blessings You have given us, and thank You for showing us that we can use even the simplest of talents to further the love of Your Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. In His holy name, we pray. Amen.
