Default Kindness Begets Kindness

God's Word For Today

Kindness Begets Kindness

Read 2 Samuel 19:1 through 20:26

A couple faithfully served God for many years, opening their home and showing kindness to others. Many people came to know Jesus and grow in Him through their influence. Shortly before retirement, the people in their church did a home makeover for them. Those who helped were happy that they were able to repay this couple for the years of kindness and caring they had shown.

When King David fled from his son Absalom, Barzillai provided for the king. After his reign was reestablished, David offered to take care of Barzillai in return for his kindness. Barzillai asked that David bestow his favor on his son Kimham instead.

“Here is your servant Kimham. Let him cross over with my lord the king. Do for him whatever you wish” (2 Samuel 19:37).

Paying it forward is a modern way of expressing the idea that an act of kindness often fosters other acts of kindness. You may never know how an act of kindness may multiply to benefit many others and bring glory to God.

Prayer Suggestion: Lord, may the kindness I show inspire others to be kind and bring glory to You.
