What's stopping most of us in the beginning of our recovery from trying to make recovery as a way of life for us is having to be in control. A thing most of us have a huge problem with. The way we see it either we have control or we don't want anything to do with it. We are control freaks ! All of us there is no escaping that fact. It's also the reason many of us don't recover because we think we have to be in control of something for it to work. Recovery doesn't work that way, and usually if we don't have control of something we flee. It's when we stop and look at our track record when it comes to us having to be in control we'll see that it really doesn't work, us wanting to be in control. Then if we can stick around the program of recovery long enough we'll learn that control is an illusion and not real. Once we've reached that conclusion our need to want to be in control vanishes.
