We are the only ones who can choose to make the changes we need to make that will allow for us to join recovery, and for us to save our own life. No one else is going to do this for us. Many of us shrink when we think of having to let go of our past, and to move beyond all that represents us and our life now as we know it. When we're new to recovery and have made the choice to do this it often feels like we have thrown ourselves into a free fall, and we have no idea of where we're going to land. This is actually a good thing, and it's necessary to do if we want to give ourselves any real chance at getting recovery. Joining recovery is never easy on any of us, but we can make it easier on ourselves if we stop refusing to let go of our past, and start trusting that where we're going to end up by joining recovery is going to be far better for us then where we now.
