At first it takes everything we've all got for all of us to want to be in recovery, and to do the things that it takes so that we'll stay in recovery. This is not easy for any of us to do and no one ever said recovery would be easy for us to get. It's an uphill battle for most of us when we start our recovery and if it weren't for the circumstances that led most of us to recovery none of us would be willing to do the things it takes. Recovery is worth it to all of us, but the only way we'll ever know this for ourselves is by doing what it takes so we'll get it. What this does for all of us when we do these things is we get separated from living in the problem, so we can take a good look at it to see it for what it is. Even though this problem has been causing most of us a lot of trouble, we've all got so used to it, and it's become so very familiar to all of us that we aren't able to see it for what it is, a problem for all of us. So what we all get for all of our efforts is for us to be able to see this problem as it actually is, and to see what it's been doing to all of us by having it. We do this by stepping back from this problem so we can actually see it for what it is. Sooner or later all of us in recovery are glad that we're no longer caught up with having to be living in this problem, and we're happy to be separated from it.That's when being in recovery is like going down hill for all of us.
