Default Natural Pleasures

Natural Pleasures

Unfortunately, too many people in our society try to capture euphoria through pills, alcohol, and various forms of other drugs. It never completely works. Those who seek euphoria through drugs find that the experience eventually betrays them. And yet, everyone needs some pleasurable moments in life. We owe it to ourselves to find those pleasures that can bring us good feelings in natural ways. Life offers many such possibilities if we pay attention to them. If your body feels reasonably well when you get out of bed, the day has already started with a plus. To start your day with awareness of the natural pleasures of life, spend time savoring your coffee and enjoying your breakfast. If the weather is nice, enjoy the sun. If it is raining, enjoy the rain.

Perhaps there are some natural pleasures that you can anticipate. Are there at least a few compatible people whom you will see today? Can you look forward to quiet time with a book, music, or favorite television program at the end of the day? Can you look forward to quiet time with your God? Somewhere within the next twenty-four hours, natural pleasures are waiting for you. They are gifts of God. Will you be aware of them when they come?

Lord, your will is for me to be joyful, to be open to the natural pleasures of life which are your gifts. Thank you for these pleasures. May I be mindful of all that you give.

Focus Your Day
