A Friend

It is said in recovery that we've all become our own worst enemy, very few of us when new to recovery can see how we have. This is because all of us have become so accustomed to doing all the things that we're all doing that are hurting all of us. What we all need now is a friend, someone who can show us how we are hurting ourselves so we can all make the changes necessary so that we all can become our own best friend. Without this there is very little chance for any of us of being able to make these changes. Our biggest obstacle in all of this is us finding that person who can show us without all of us wanting to turn our back on them. We can overcome this obstacle in recovery in a way we'll not be able to find anywhere else. Our part in this when we're all new is to listen to everything that's being said, knowing that it's not meant for us to like everything, but when we do hear something that we do like by someone is knowing we'll be able to listen to that person tell us what it is that necessary all of us to hear. What's different about this in recovery is that the person is the same as us, and won't find it necessary to talk down to us which helps everyone involved. A most powerful thing happens when there is kind of mutual aid between two people, both of them are helped in ways that they really can't understand, but they can still know they are both being helped by this. They will become friends because of this in ways they won't find anywhere else, and together will be able to walk each other home on this road of recovery.
