Default Daily Sobriety

Daily Sobriety

1 Peter 1:13 “…keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace…of Jesus Christ” (NASB).

“What do you think it means to be sober in spirit?” asked our teacher. The question intrigued me, so I looked up the word sober in the dictionary. To my amazement, the definition read: “not flurried, not excited, but self-possessed.” That sounded like the description of a recovering rushaholic. It reminded me of what I wanted to be — calm, less in a hurry to make things happen, consistent, less driven, and better equipped to accept responsibility for my own life choices. “Can I stay sober on a regular basis?” I wondered.

Perhaps the answer to my question is found in fixing my hope on God’s grace. One day at a time is how the new system becomes a habit. If you and I try to tackle all the days all at once, we become overwhelmed. But by taking one day at a time, we will soon have a lifetime of sober living.

Lord, I only ask that you give me this day my “daily bread.”
Keep me sober just for today.
And then tomorrow we’ll start all over again.

Joan C. Webb

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
