Default Good Deeds

Good Deeds

Read 1 Peter 2:11 through 4:11

Can we truly impact our world simply by doing good deeds? Catherine Ryan Hyde thinks so. In 2000, she established the Pay It Forward Foundation. Her foundation provides funding to students who formulate plans to bring positive change to their communities.

Hyde is not, however, the first person to develop such thinking. Saint Francis of Assisi is credited with the statement, “Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” He believed that only when your lifestyle presented the gospel in real and tangible ways would your words have an impact.

The apostle Peter felt the same way. Writing to believers scattered across the Roman world, he admonishes, “It is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men” (1 Peter 2:15).

We have many opportunities, often every day, to do good deeds and positive actions in our schools, businesses, and neighborhoods. Everyone has the potential of making a real and lasting impact on their world simply by doing good.

Challenge for Today: Deliberately look for opportunities to do good deeds and by doing so, change your world for Christ.

Quicklook:1 Peter 2:13–25 God's Word for Today
