The Unlikely Candidate
The Unlikely Candidate
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 Recommended Reading Luke 19:1-9 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage...9&version=NKJV He was a traitor, collecting taxes from the Romans and although many envied his wealth, it was also a symbol of his greed and extortion. When Jesus looked into the tree and called Zacchaeus by name, the people were incredulous, "Why would Jesus choose him? Doesn't Jesus know who he is?" They were so focused on the flaws of the person being chosen, they forgot about the person with the power to decide. Instead of seeing the generosity and love of Jesus in that moment, the crowd clung to their list of reasons as to why Zaccheaus should be disqualified from the attention and affection of God. It's easy to relate to the crowd. Whether we are focusing on our own failures or that of others, we miss God's grace and love. God delights in drawing unlikely candidates to Himself and transforming them through His powerful presence. Greedy Zaccheaus became generous Zaccheaus. He joyfully gave half of his possessions to the poor. Imagine the impact of his transformation on the community. Zaccheaus became a provider and helper to those in need. Will you allow God to transform you today? People only have true understanding (wisdom) when they look at everything from God's perspective. R. C.
