Proverb A Day – Day 22 by SGLY Ministry
Today’s Proverb: Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart to my knowledge, For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Let them be fixed upon your lips, So that your trust may be in the Lord; Proverbs 22:17-19 [NKJV] Today’s Thought: Today’s Proverb seems to be saying that we should listen to God’s word, study it, and meditate on it. Then we should also memorize it, speak it, do it and teach it to others. As we do this daily, it will become such a part of us that we will always place our trust in the Lord. Today’s Action: Today: I will listen to the word I will study the word I will meditate on the word I will memorize the word I will speak the word I will do the word I will teach the word to others ********** Overcomer I am an overcomer! God has given me everything I need to succeed. What an empowering idea! The power of God in me is greater than any difficulty. I tap into the guidance of God to navigate unexpected barriers. One with God, I can overcome any challenge and achieve any goal. The love of God in me brings harmony into any chaotic situation. The strength of God in me provides me the will and energy to overcome any circumstance. My faith gives me patience, insight, discernment, and positive expectations. I use my imagination to envision the best outcomes. Through the power of God in me, I achieve my dreams. I prevail. I am an overcomer! For whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith.—1 John 5:4 Daily Word ********** Have You Sharpened Your Ax? A young man approached the foreman of a logging crew and asked for a job. "That depends," replied the foreman. "Let's see you fell this tree." The young man stepped forward and skillfully felled a great tree. Impressed, the foreman exclaimed, "You can start Monday." Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday rolled by. Thursday afternoon the foreman approached the young man and said, "You can pick up your paycheck on the way out today." Startled, the young man replied, "I thought you paid on Friday." "Normally we do," said the foreman. "But we're letting you go today because you've fallen behind. Our daily felling charts show that you've dropped from first place on Monday to last place today." "But I'm a hard worker," the young man objected. "I arrive first, leave last and even have worked through my coffee breaks!" The foreman, sensing the young man's integrity, thought for a minute and then asked, "Have you been sharpening your axe?" The young man replied, "No sir, I've been working too hard to take time for that!" Our lives are like that. We sometimes get so busy that we don't take time to "sharpen the ax." In today's world, it seems that everyone is busier than ever but less happy than ever. Why is that? Could it be that we have forgotten how to stay sharp? There's nothing wrong with activity and hard work. But God doesn't want us to get so busy that we neglect the truly important things in life, like taking time to pray, to read and study scripture or to listen to "the still small voice of God." We all need time to relax, to think and meditate, to learn and grow. If we don't take time to sharpen the ax, we will become dull and lose our effectiveness. Take time today to sharpen your ax! The Daily Encourager ********** The tongue has the power of life and death * The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit Proverbs 18:21 * For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned Mathew 12:37 * When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. Proverbs 10:19 * The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. James 3:6 * This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. Deuteronomy 30:19 When we are frustrated with certain situation how do we handle it? Do we tame our tongue and turn to God who is able to solve the issues or turn to offensive slangs, letting off steam, taking matters in to our own hands? When a friend talks to us ill of his/her boss, spouse or co worker, what is our response? Are we nodding in agreement, adding fuel to the fire, thus not taming our tongue or are we setting an example by responding wisely offering to pray over the situation thus ending such conversation? Do we backbite? Do we rather praise men than God? Do our words hurt instead of heal? What is the fruit of your tongue? Is it life or death? Coffee with Jesus
