Default Poem of an Addict

Struggling on a routine basis and living in a daily fight
I lift it to my lips and wrap them around the pipe.

Not wanting to do it anymore
I can’t stop as I sit on the floor

Knowing it’s killing me, not knowing how or when to stop
Trapped in the insanity of having been caught

Why do I continue on this path I’m on
Dying slowly in a sad and painful song

In desperation I cry out to God
Lord how did I get to this journey I’m on?

Guide me to the light of one day clean
I don’t want to live like this or die a dope fiend.

Where is the end when comes relief?
I can’t go on inhaling this thief

I no tomorrow may never be here
Show me the way out and I’ll keep you near

Having prayed in anguish an addicts cry
I lat there hopelessly not willing to die

He brought before me my saving grace one day
A12 step program, a place they call NA

They told me why it works and they showed me how
Told me to listen and learn, to live in the hear and now

There’s only today they said there is no tomorrow
Share all your pain it will minimize your sorrow.

Pain shared is pain lessoned
In this you will find the essence

Be honest and humble, open-minded and willing
These are the keys to a life worth living

Practice spiritual principles in your daily living
Give yourself a break and be forgiving

A cure is not what they offer but the disease can be arrested
Be strong, work the steps, its at your weakest when you’ll be tested.

30, 60, and 90 days clean
You’ll start to feel worthy and then comes serene

6 turn into 9 months and then 18
Soon you’ll find yourself with one year clean

Heed my advice and hear my warning
If you don’t stop now
You might be dead by morning.
